The RxSight Light Adjustable Lens™ is the only FDA-approved intraocular lens that can be customized after CLR surgery, allowing your surgeon to fine-tune your vision after your eye has healed.
CLR (Custom Lens Replacement) replaces your cloudy natural lens with a clear artificial lens called an intraocular lens, or IOL.
With CLR, the power of the lens is selected before surgery and cannot be changed once it is implanted. The Light Adjustable Lens gives your surgeon the ability to adjust your vision after surgery using controlled in-office UV light treatments, based on how your eye actually heals.
That means your final vision is not just based on pre-surgery measurements. It can be refined after you have had time to experience your new vision in the real world.

The Light Adjustable Lens™ is an intraocular lens used during Custom Lens Replacement. Unlike a traditional fixed lens, LAL can be adjusted after surgery using controlled UV light treatments once your eye has healed.
Every other IOL (intraocular lens) available has a fixed power selected before surgery. Once it is implanted, the lens cannot be adjusted directly. However, your visual result can still be adjusted via a laser (eg, LASIK).
The Light Adjustable Lens allows your surgeon to fine-tune your vision after surgery based on your actual healing and visual experience. A light delivery device (LDD) is used by the doctor to adjust the shape of the already-implanted lens. This takes approximately 90 seconds and can be done multiple times.
After your eye heals, you return to the office for light treatments. Your eye is numbed and dilated, and the Light Delivery Device uses a controlled UV light pattern to adjust the lens power.
The treatment itself is quick. RxSight states that individual light treatments can average about 90 seconds, though the full appointment takes longer because of testing, preparation, and dilation.
Your treatment plan depends on your eye, healing, and vision goals. Many patients have 1–3 adjustment treatments followed by two lock-in treatments to secure the final result. Expect a total of 3 to 5 additional visits, each one with a doctor on our team (who also performs the adjustment).
Until your final lock-in treatment is complete, the lens can still respond to UV light. The protective glasses help prevent uncontrolled UV exposure from changing the lens before your result is finalized.
You will be instructed when to wear them and when it is safe to stop.
RxSight instructs patients to wear UV-protective glasses during waking hours until 24 hours after the final light treatment is complete.
The goal of LAL is to reduce your dependence on glasses and help you achieve clearer functional vision. Some patients may still prefer glasses for certain tasks, such as extended reading, fine print, or night driving.

LAL is not right for everyone. Patients who cannot follow the postoperative schedule, cannot wear UV-protective glasses as instructed, take certain UV-sensitizing medications, have certain retinal or macular conditions, have a history of ocular herpes simplex, or have difficulty maintaining steady fixation may not be candidates. Your surgeon will review your eye health and medical history carefully.
Most patients tolerate the light treatments well. Your eye is numbed for the treatment, and the process is performed in the office. Your vision may be blurry afterward from dilation or gel used during treatment.
Yes. You will receive instructions about drops, eye protection, activity, and avoiding eye rubbing. With LAL, you will also need to wear UV-protective glasses as instructed until the adjustment and lock-in process is complete.
Travel may be possible, but timing matters. You will need to return for your light treatment and lock-in visits, and you must wear your UV-protective glasses as instructed. Discuss travel plans with your surgical team before scheduling surgery.
The Light Adjustable Lens costs an additional $1,000 per eye for the CLR procedure to account for the additional time we spend with each patient as well as the benefit of allowing the patient to fine-tune their vision.
