Our Vision Warranty

What happens if you have Wavefront LASIK this year, but then your vision begins to gradually worsen after ten, or twenty years? At the Laser Eye Center, we include all follow-up appointments for one year after your Wavefront procedure (any re-treatments are also included). AND with this supplemental warranty, just in case your vision worsens with age,

We’ll also perform a re-treatment procedure to fine-tune your distance vision at NO COST, even decades later!

What makes our warranty different from other LASIK “guarantees”?  Only our warranty entitles you to have a re-treatment procedure:
  • Without time limitations (Others expire with time)
  • Without additional payment obligations (Others require yearly paid eye exam obligations to maintain eligibility)
  • Regardless of your level of vision (Others require vision to be "worse than 20/40")

Your Expectations Should Be Realistic: While LASIK procedures are designed to last, your vision may eventually change with age. On average, the results of LASIK typically last for over 10 years. These age-related changes are a natural process and are unavoidable. This is why it's important to have a stable prescription before you have your procedure. Our plan is based on human physiology and realistic expectations. Established in 1992, the Laser Eye Center’s well-informed patients know that LASIK is long lasting (but not “permanent”), and that we stand by our work with this re-treatment policy. We have set up this plan for your peace of mind, just in case your vision worsens with age (or sooner than you expect). Our only request is that you return the favor by telling others about the amazing care that you received at our Laser Eye Center.

If you read the "fine print", our warranty is unmatched:
Many laser centers offer their version of a “guarantee”. After sorting through all their fine print, though, we believe our warranty is more intelligently designed to better cover our patients. Here’s why:
  1. We do not require you to assume any other payment obligation or maintain yearly eye exams to remain eligible for our plan. For example, some centers require you to return for a $150/year annual exam. If you accidentally miss one appointment, you'd be disqualified! Assuming you were able to attend every annual appointment, after 10 years, you’d have spent an additional $1,500, so the re-treatment is hardly “free” anyway. We have no mandatory appointment requirements, but we’d be honored if you chose us for your future routine eye care.
  2. Our warranty covers you regardless of your level of vision. Some LASIK center’s guarantee contains a subtle clause that only takes effect if one’s vision is “WORSE than 20/40”. In reality, it can take several years or even decades to gradually decline from 20/15 to 20/20 to 20/25 to 20/30 to 20/40 and then finally to 20/50! Since most patients typically won’t want to wait until their vision eventually declines to 20/50, patients get stuck into paying for an uncovered re-treatment (or wear glasses again), due to this subtle restriction. Formerly, our old “Warranty” used to have a similar clause, but we realized that it often failed to adequately cover our patients. So we changed it! We want to keep our patients seeing great for the long haul and if we can help out, we will!
  3. Defining “Lifetime”: We encourage other centers to avoid the misleading term “lifetime guarantee". Why? In 2010, a national corporate LASIK chain shut down all of its California laser centers, so now many Bay Area LASIK patients are stuck with a useless “lifetime" guarantee. Realistically, it’s not YOUR lifetime; it is the lifetime of THEIR business! Our warranty stays in effect without any time constraints to cover a re-treatment procedure for the lifetime of our business. With this warranty, we are strongly motivated to get your vision right the first time and have it last for a long time.

After comparing other options, most patients conclude that our plan is truly better. Our Wavefront Vision Warranty entitles our wavefront patients to a re-treatment, as long as the vision change is not caused by presbyopia, another eye disease/surgery, and is medically appropriate.
