LASIK Eye Surgery Procedures

You've heard of LASIK eye surgery before, but you may not know that there are several different kinds of LASIK procedures. Depending on the anatomy of your eyes and the severity of your refractive error, one may be better for you than another. If you know all of the options out there, you will be better prepared to make a decision.

The first decision you have to make is whether you want custom LASIK eye surgery or traditional LASIK eye surgery. Custom is better because it gives patients better results more consistently, but it is more expensive than traditional. Not everyone is a candidate for custom LASIK, so ask your doctor if it would benefit you.

Deciding among LASIK Eye Surgery Procedures
Another decision you can make is how you would like the flap cut in your cornea at the beginning of the surgery. This is either done with a microkeratome, an instrument similar to a carpenter's plane, or with a laser called intraLASE. Flaps cut by laser are thinner and more uniform because the laser is controlled by a computer.

Your decisions should be based on the potential benefits of the procedures, not on their costs. When it comes to deciding which of the LASIK procedures is best for your case, your surgeon will provide you with all the helpful information you need. The doctors at Laser Eye Center of Silicon Valley are dedicated to helping you determine which procedures will give you the best chance at 20/20 vision.
