Laser Eye Treatments

Myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia are the most common vision problems. Myopia, also called nearsightedness, causes faraway objects to appear blurry. Hyperopia, also called farsightedness, actually causes both near and far vision to be blurry, but people with the condition have better far vision than near vision. Astigmatism also causes blurry near and far vision. Presbyopia begins around age 40 and affects near vision, resulting in the need for reading glasses.

Laser eye treatments treat these conditions by using a laser to burn tissue off the eye's cornea in order to re-shape it. The shape of the cornea is primarily responsible for the refractive error in the eye. When it approximates a more normal shape, vision is significantly improved.

What to Expect from Laser Eye Treatments
Laser eye treatments are virtually painless. Some patients experience mild pain post-operatively for no more than a few days, but that pain is easily controlled with over the counter pain medications and/or eyedrops. The actual laser procedure takes only a few minutes per eye, but pre-operative examinations and preparations can take up to around two hours, depending on which of the treatments you have.

If you get the best treatments available from Laser Eye Center of Silicon Valley, you can expect significant improvement in your vision almost immediately. Many patients sit up from the procedure seeing clearly without assistance for the first time in years.
