Intralase LASIK

The IntraLASE, sometimes known as the IntraLASIK laser, is an advanced laser technology now being employed by some refractive surgeons during LASIK procedures. Traditionally, LASIK required the use of a precise blade, known as a microkeratome, to cut a small flap in the patient's cornea. The IntraLASE, on the other hand, allows the surgeon to create the flap using a laser beam instead of a blade.

The incredible precision afforded by the IntraLASE has also given surgeons the ability to work more easily with patients who have thin corneas. When a patient needs extensive resculpting of the cornea, a microkeratome has a difficult time leaving enough corneal tissue to work with. The IntraLASE can create a flap in even the thinnest of corneas.

Beyond Intralase LASIK
Another type of refractive surgery, called Wavefront, is also made easier with the use of the IntraLASE laser. Overall, the IntraLASE is a huge advancement in LASIK and similar surgeries that allows experienced surgeons to work with unprecedented precision. The Laser Eye Center of Silicon Valley is one of the most respected refractive surgery centers in the country and the surgeons there have invested in all the state-of-the-art technology applicable to their field, which includes the IntraLASE laser.
