After LASIK Eye Surgery

LASIK eye surgery is an extremely quick procedure, usually taking around three to five minutes per eye. Afterwards, you can look forward to greatly improved vision, but for best results you should also pay attention to and follow guidelines provided by your doctor.

After your LASIK eye surgery you will be asked to wear protective sunglasses for the rest of the day, as your eyes may be sensitive to light temporarily. It is extremely important that you do not rub your eyes for at least a month to prevent certain complications that can follow LASIK eye surgery. You will probably be asked to wear a protective eye shield when you sleep for about a week to prevent accidental rubbing.

After LASIK Eye Surgery Recommendations
The surgeons and staff at Laser Eye Center of Silicon Valley will give you all of the information needed to protect your eyes during your recovery from surgery. Some of these guidelines include refraining from pool swimming for at least two weeks and from other water sports for at least one month. You should not use any creams or make-up around your eyes for at least a week after your surgery as well.

One of the possible complications of LASIK eye surgery is infection. Though a rare occurrence, it is important to monitor your eyes after the operation and treat any signs of infection immediately in order to prevent vision loss and other damage. Your doctor may prescribe oral antibiotics or antibiotic eye drops to help prevent infection.
