For patients over 60, there are some some unique issues to consider. Based on your age and other answers, there’s a good chance that you’re a candidate for either Laser Vision Correction (LASIK or Epi-LASIK) or the RLE procedure, but it is difficult to determine which procedure is MOST appropriate for you without knowing your exact prescription, corneal thickness, corneal shape, and lens clarity/cataracts. That’s why we recommend scheduling your free consultation, so we can determine your best and safest option. Learn more about your potential options:
If you wear bifocals, trifocals, progressive lenses, readers or have to take off your glasses to read, there are a couple of great options for you to consider. LASIK has been shown to be safe and effective for patients over 60, as long as the eye’s internal lens is clear and not beginning to develop cataracts. During your consultation, we will be able to determine if the lens inside your eye is becoming yellow/cloudy (early cataracts). If we detect early cataracts, it might be a more appropriate and long lasting option to consider the Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) procedure instead. The RLE procedure is a permanent lens solution that can improve visual quality and help get rid of glasses for distance and near.
